I guess the overwhelming majority of us have never had the tranny apart.
Aren't the shims also an obsolete item? Has anyone ever determined whether
the 5-speed in the Contour can be used as a parts source, or even the entire
tranny itself?

Well, I actually did post something new.

I lost a rivet out of my pinion gear, like the ones that have to be drilled
out when you are doing a quaif. Like the one that Ford has dropped the
replacement bolt off of their parts list.

And Mark N. responded, but no one else did.

I thought that this would start a thread that would last for a while, but it
didn't. And I am reasured that I can live with 9 of 10 rivets in place.
But some one will have to find these replacement bolts, or we as a group
could be in trouble down the road. If some one would post the correct size,
I still have some connections in the fastener business and would order
several dozen, if not several hundred, just to have on hand.

The Fiero topic was also very good...
