ok......since the last time my '92 MTX was actin' stupid...I didn't replace
anything and it has been trouble free for over 1500 miles and like 3
weeks....now all of a sudden, today on the way to work to work, the oil
light came on. I was downshifting at the time and the rpm's were up around
3,000 or so and the light was flickering, I let off the gas and it went to
full bright. So I thru it in nuetral and revved it a bit and it was
chattering like crazy... So I shut the engine off(while coasting down the
road) and started it back up...the noise went away for a minute or two then
came back..So I pulled in to the nearest gas station to check the oil...It
was about halfway in the crosshatched area on the dipstick...So I put about
a half quart in...I started it up and it sounded great again....so I drove
on to work....so coming home now, it is doing great and sounds good for like
20 or 30 miles and then again with the oil light.....so I thru it in nuetral
and revved a little and the knocking starts.....so I shut it off and restart
it, it goes away for a bit again....then returns....could this be the oil
pump going out?...and might there still be no damage yet?..and if so, how
much of a PITA is it to rebuild the bottom end or even the top end if need
be?...any and all help is greatly apprecciated in advance....
