This is not necessarily true. I started getting the ticking in my motor at
the dragstrip at the Convention. Doug Lewis listened to the motor, felt that
at least two rod were knocking, and suggested heavy oil and a slow ride
home.

I then put another 600 miles on the car getting it home. Upon pulling the
bearings, they were bad, and at least one rod was spinning, as the tangs
were gone on the bearing. See my PictureTrail account:

The journals and rods looked fine, however. I have now put around 3K o the
car since the bearing job, and all is fine.

    Failing rod bearings do not typically make noises before they spin. You
can spin a rod bearing and not know about it for a few minutes, when the
overheated bearing and rod begin to eat into each other. This is why, once
you've heard the knock, it's too late.
