Same here, Doug Lewis diagnosed it with a rod knock,  We drove it gently for
about 10K before we put rings and bearings in it.  One bearing had spun but
the crank looked fine.  The motor had 200K in it when we did the work.  218K
now and it is still running like a champ.

Ditto, My 91+ had rod bearing knock for a couple
thousand miles before I figured out what is was.
I finally pulled the pan, did find a spun bearing but the
crank looked fine. I installed new bearings and its been
fine for close to 10k miles now.
