You don't have to take the needles off to replace the bulbs.  The whole gage
cluster comes out as a unit.  You can then replace the bulbs.  But you will
have to remove the speedo cable to get it out.  If you have big mitts like me,
then you'll have trouble.  You might want to wait til you get the white faces.
Stupid me; when I had mine out I should have replaced all the bulbs, just to
be sure.  They'll probably systematically start to burn out now.

Subject: [Shotimes] light behind speedometer out?

The other day one of the lights behind the speedometer blew.  At least I
think it's that... now the 60, 70 , and 80 mph range is dimmer than the rest
of the dash.  Is it common for those lights to die?  I only have 83K on the
odometer and that seems kinda ridiculous for one to blow out so soon! Does
that mean you have to open everything up and remove the needles and
everything?  Might as well wait then till I put my white faced gauges
in...gotta buy them first though ;)
