[Shotimes] Stated Value Insurance

Not to sound like a smartass......well, who am I kidding, everyone calls me
a smartass anyway!!

I brought this topic up in 1996 when my '89 had an incident with a telephone
pole. I had spent over $10K in '95 for bodywork, paint, performance mods,
etc, and a measly RF fender/suspension hit totaled it (I have pics, for
anyone interested). Long story, but I got it fixed.

Stated Value is common with about any insurance company. Musclecar guys
(like one of my friends) have it. It is costly, though, unless the car is a
low-mileage-per-year pleasure-use-only car.

As far as I'm concerned, Gen 1/2 cars in nice shape should only be
pleasure-use, limited annual mileage cars anyway. This is for normal
people........for the masochists who like doing all their own work on cars
that have to get them to work everyday, you're on your own. This POS '95 I
have will be my LAST daily driver SHOs.....if I don't torch it before I sell
it!!

I tried sending this to TechSHO twice, but it wouldn't get there.....maybe
that list
is doing it's "bouncing off" thing again.

Has anyone had any experience with insuring a car for "stated value"? I'm
planning
on doing that for the SHOs around here from now on, due to the obvious but
(up til
last Thursday) ignored fact that it doesn't take more than a bump to total a
V-6 SHO
when it gets into an accident. Lowrider is obviously totaled, but USAA
says they
will continue to insure it if I fix it myself and show them the receipts to
indicate
and verify that it was fixed correctly.

USAA says they have a section or subsidiary of the company that does that.
I just
want to know from previous users if there are any caveats or cautions that I
need to
be aware of that they might not tell me about, for whatever reason.

I'd bet, if they think about it....a few others here might want to know this
information, too.

Seems like there are a couple of insurance types on the list.....??

Thanks in advance....

George and the dinged Lowrider, but it'll be all purty again for Madison!!
