As Ron N seems to allude to, I don't think the WRX was trying. Still fun to
play though! I stumbled upon the perfect place for a little fun the other
night. I never am on roads with 2 lanes in each direction, but I was
leaving Royal Oak on Friday night and made a right onto the service drive to
get on 696 (locations given for locals) I didn't realize it at the time,
but it was perfect; 2 lanes go side by side from a light straight onto the
eway. I had pulled hard around the corner onto this drive and noticed a car
staying right with me. We got the light on red and he pulled up next to me.
It was a Honda Prelude (I just looked it up and it was a gen 4, 92-96. He
took about a car on me off the line because I didn't really launch, not
knowing if he'd go. As soon as I was rolling I nailed it and pulled back
even. I had a real nice shift into second and pulled ahead. Then I flat
out missed third, pushed the clutch back in and put it in gear and hit it
again. He was even or a car ahead at that point but when I nailed it again
we stayed even. By this time we were descending into the expressway (it's
like a canyon through the city) and already going 80, so I just put it in
fifth and let him go. When I went by him on the eway he turned on his dome
light and gave the thumbs up, but didn't really look over. (not sure he was
upset that he couldn't beat a sedan) After my looking right now, I probably
should have beaten him, might have had I launched and not missed 3rd. But
he did have a nice 3" tailpipe (wasn't too rice) so I'm sure he had other
performance mods. Stock the VTEC model has 190hp and they weigh 2900 lbs
(not sure it was the vtec though, the Si was 160hp). Anyone have any
performance numbers on them?

On a calmer note, I took care of some door and trunk rust today. Not as bad
a process as I had been thinking it would be.
