I use: 


 AVG anti-virus system (http://www.grisoft.com).


I have been using it for 2 years now and it has not let me down.
Plus I have not sent anyone viruses either :) at the list.

Ps. Than again I can afford to use free stuff because I do backups of my system and I can rebuild the PC if I have to.
But like I said I have not had any virus problems for a long time.
