I accept your explanation IF AND ONLY IF the engine was originally used in a
RWD application and THEN was turned sideways for a FWD application.

But, if the engine was designed for and only used in a FWD application then
IMO the front of the engine is the part that gets hit with air first as you
drive down the road.

What about air-cooled Porsche engines or the original Beetle engines?  By
your definition the "front" of those engines would be pointing to the "rear"
of the car?!?!?

I brought this subject up a while back and received a lot of good-natured
flack for it.  The way I see it, we don't call our DIS a distributor or
magneto.  We don't call our CD-player a cassette deck or 8-track player.
Times change; new innovations replace old standards.

Is the front of your body on the right-hand side "just because" you use a
pencil in that hand?  I think not.  So why is the front of the engine on the
right hand side "just because" the alternator and a/c compressor are there?
Makes absolutely no sense to me.
