[Shotimes] Fuel Milage

I live in a small town and occasionally drive a 40 mile commute to
Portland. Just did 60k service and replaced O2 sensors. Mostly I drive
very short trips. Basically though, I get 210 miles per tank or 12-13
MPG. What am I missing? God, I'd love to be getting 20 MPG or so! I
didn't change the fuel filter or air filter because it had been done
recently. To be quite honest - I don't even know where the fuel filter
is yet. Does the fuel filter have a big impact on gas mileage? Where
is it? Please excuse all my stupid questions in advance!!

It is ready for a tune up if you haven't already done it. The plugs are
ready to
change..they are good for 100K at the most. It could need wires...do
you notice any
missing or stubling under hard acceleration? What does the temp gauge
say? Does
the engine warm up properly? The gauge pointer should go to somewhere
around the A
or just above the L when it is properly warmed up and cruising at the
speed limit.
The Oxygen sensors can also cause mileage to drop over time. They can
last up to
200K miles or so, but also can go around 130 to 150K. The easiest way
to tell they
are gone, if they don't leave a code, and a CE light, is to see the city
mileage
drop WAY down, from the high teens to 20 or so, down to 12 or 13, even
with
conservative driving habits.

The 60K or 100K (ATX) tuneups address most of these problems. The O2
sensors are
sort of optional, but if you check out all these things, you most likely
will find
the problem.
