Good afternoon gentlemen,
As some of you may know I am into month 2 of trying to get my car to
work right after snapping a half-shaft off in the differential. Here
are the details:
I had the trans rebuilt with a new differential installed. I also had a
Southbend DX clutch kit installed with a fidanza lightened flywheel
installed. I did not do the installations, my mechanic did it. I am
having problems getting the car into gear. Also the clutch engagement
is right at the top of the travel of the clutch pedal. Lastly, when
the clutch pedal is out we have a clicking like noise emanating from the
bellhousing/trans area. When the clutch is pressed the noise goes away.
My mechanic first tried to blame the shifting problem on the worn out
rubber grommet at the end of the shift cable. So I had a plastic insert
machined, which fits beautifully. With the insert things got better
however, we are still having problems getting the car into gear at a
stand still. If we man handle the shifter the car goes into gear
however something seems wrong with that approach. The mechanic is
stating that it is a little tight going into gear however it still goes
into gear. Sometimes if I do not get it fully into gear the trans
pushes it self out of gear and grinds.
I suspect the clutch is misajusted. The problem is when I try and
release the adjustment by jerking back on the pedal it does not release.
Is there an alternative manual release for the autoadjuster?
To be very honest I am frustrated and feeling emotional about the whole
thing. I desperately want my car to work and I am feeling a little
burned right now. Any thoughts would really be appreciated. Maybe one
of you has experienced similar issues. This is my second MTX SHO and my
second time I have gone through the rebuild process and I feel like I
know how the car should feel. Who knows.... thanks for reading and your
thoughts.
As for the plastic insert I have a couple more. I would be willing to
sell them. Email me off list.
