I will probably be ready to sell my SHO after over 12 years after I sign
a contract next week
for a job. I may trade it in, but given it will have very low value, I
would be willing to consider
any reasonable offers - BUT I would prefer someone who would be willing
to see the car
and go over all the issues first so it is clear on the condition of the car.
1990 - original owner , less than 63K miles on it.
Mocha leather interior - wear on the drivers side bolster, some wear on
front seats - mainly
driver seat - no tears.
All options except CD. - Original stereo was replaced with Alpine head
unit and Alpine
6-disk (Luxman compatible cartidge) changer in trunk and two alpine
amps. Original
cassette head unit and front ford amp will be provided. Issue:
Indash CD will not eject
and one of my cds is in it [I'd like that CD back, but haven't had
the time to figure out
how to get the unit out. Was installed through a pro car-audio
shop]. JBL speakers
and all ford wiring and rear amp intact.
Exterior body needs a paint job. [ Someone working on my house had gotten
specs all over the front of the car - small *white* paint specs.
And never came back
after doing the damage while I was not around.] Small rust on
top of trunk lid, some minor
dings. I had a run in with a deer a few years ago and hood and
one front side panel were
replaced under insurance with Ford parts painted by a very good
body shop. One brace
that runs sideways on the top was bent and replaced with the
original Ford part as well.
A/C - internal dash unit is like new - was replaced under warranty with
the version with
buttons which do not easily crack. A/c unfortunately does
not produce cold air.
The codes from the control unit indicate no problems, so it is
not an electrical issue.
The engine runs fine, except there are times when the engine is hot that
the engine rpms
vary and it looks like the engine may stop when sitting idle.
Cluch was replaced at 29K or so and may need to be replaced soon,
however I am not
an adequate judge of clutch health. This was my first manual
transmission car.
Moonroof - works, however switch may break again (replaced once - the pastic
'stick' that holds the switch breaks) and the moon roof stops at the
wrong spot when
closing it, so I have to press the switch again and stop at the
right time.
The tires have some tread left - they are Eagle GT+4s - OEM wheels
with SHO emblems
still intact.
Brakes - had some brake work done by a local shop, but there are still
some problems.
One issue is that if the engine is transitioning from cold
[high-idle] speed to normal
idle, twice I was making k-turns and the brake pedal lost all feel
and fell to the floor.
The engine was changing speed a bit and I believe this is related to
something causing
the engine idle problems above. [Anyone have suggestions?]
The other issue is the brake effectiveness - had a problem where
brakes gave out after
ABS kicked in - the ABS unit [fuild reservior and mechanical unit
with brake lines coming
out it] was replaced as well as the master brake cylinder. Still
had problems and
they are now better, but still have 80% or so of normal stopping
power. [Air in lines? overfilled
brake fluid? belt from engine powering the brakes bad? ]
Pads/rotors were checked and are fine.
The Y-pipe w/ catalytic converters was replaced a few years ago with
Ford stock parts,
but the catback may need to be replaced at some point.
Lots of parts were fixed/replaced through the years through Ford dealers
[yep ripping
me off in many cases].
The condition of the car primarily deteriorated from lack of use for
three years when I
used the train to Manhattan. I don't believe it is beyond saving, but
in my case I need
to consider long term issues with a car needed to drive a lot and I am
not capable
of doing most of the work required myself.
It is one of less than 1800 Black 1990 SHOs built - and majority had
black rather than Mocha
interior. Unfortunately I am not handy in doing work on the car myself
and relied upon dealers
who I don't trust did the jobs properly. Regardless, the car does run
well if the engine control
issue and brakes can be addressed. [The selling dealer was good, but
too far and local
Ford dealers are a nightmare in this area].
I have found good pricing on the Accord EX-V6 but need to test drive it
after getting a job
contract signed. Obviously trade-in is going to be very difficult in
its condition, so I'd prefer
to sell it to someone who would be able to maintain it [ and give my cd
back :-) ].
Sorry about the long message.. I've been on/off shotimes for years.
I'm sure some of
you may be able to convince me to just fix the SHO - but I need someone
who I can
really trust to do the work right. The North Brunswick place I went to
a few years ago
was ok, but I did not feel they did 100% what needed to be done for what
they charged.
I've been tempted to get to one of the real SHO shops for years, but
getting the SHO
to Maryland or other areas could be a problem in its condition.
Thanks for any help/suggestions or offers!
