[Shotimes] rod bearings

OK - really stupid question, but what exactly is the "journal"? When
you say if plastigage advises other than standard - go to plan B - I'll
ask again - Are non standard bearings not available? I only had a short
conversation w/my local NAPA dealer, but she seemed to think I could get
the non-standard sizes if needed.

Sorry for all the stupid questions - but being as anal as I am, I like
to know everything I can before I start wrenching! You guys didn't let
me down on the top end, so I'm counting on you for help when I pull the
bottom off as well! :-)

Kerry

It all depends on the condition when you get it apart. If it looks
smooth or
even if it has very, very light circular grooving then you are probably
OK.
If it is rougher, then you can try to smooth it off yourself with emery
cloth
and a leather belt or shoestring. (wrap the emery cloth and shoestring
around the journals and pull the ends of the string to see-saw the emery

cloth back and forth around the journal.) In any event it is advisable
to
check the clearances with plastigage. If it looks really bad or if the
clearances are way off, then you need another plan.
