Shims are usually not a big problem, and usually don't cause noise. I
recommend checking the torque on your harmonic balancer bolt and also
checking for play in the crankshaft timing gear. To do this take the upper
timing belt cover loose enough so that you can see part of the timing belt.
Then rock the crankshaft a little bit both directions. Watch the timing
belt while you do this and make sure that the timing belt moves completely
in synchronization with the crankshaft. If there is any crankshaft movement
without corresponding timing belt movement then you have found the source of
the noise. Let us know what you find and we'll tell you how to fix it.

< What's up all you SHO lovers? Just joined the list, so work with me if I
do something wrong. I am in N.W. Georgia and am the current owner of a 93
black on black 5-speed with 130,000 miles. I picked up this car with a top
end noise and am not real sure what to do.
