[Shotimes] Got the '89 back, now to see if I can bring it

Jim, unplug the sensor and forget it!! Just check the bottle once a month or
so. Seems to be an '89 thing. On my '89, the "Low Coolant" light came on
right AFTER I would fill the bottle. I would unplug it for a few weeks, then
plug it back in and it was fine. Then I just left it unplugged! All it tells
you is that the bottle is low, or that it's cracked & leaking, it won't do
squat if you start overheating.
Still have a warranty on the alternator? If the belt is loose, it usually
squeals. Folks don't seem to have much luck with rebuilt SHO
alternators.....unless they get their original rebuilt rather than an
unknown core.
Spray the whole car down with satin black, then clearcoat it!! Should cost
under $50 worth of Krylon cans!!! Do the lace wheels while you're at
it.....saves all of that !#$%^&* cleaning!!

George,
My daughter needs the money so I'm buying it from her.
We are only the second family that has owned it since
new in '89. We got it from Randy smith who used to be
on this list and had 3 SHOs like I have. I need a car
to at least teach my son to drive a stick on and it
will do that job at a minimum.
Even so there is not a lot of logic here. I could sell
this one and buy a MTX in better shape for only a
little more money. I don't have a lot of time to work
on it. But I'm going to brign it back as far as I can
without spending a fortune anyway. It's just one of
those entertaining cars (both SHOs and this particular
one) and I suppose I have some emotional attachment.
It looks a lot better that it did Friday. It had more
of the Mad Max flat black kind of thing going but it
is all one color now. And I am teaching my son how to
turn a wrench and I have an excuse to talk with SHO
guys again.
So I will probably be running through the LONG list of
fixes one by one unless something really expensive
comes along.
SO - I have eliminated all idiot light problems except
low coolant (bottle sensor?? Can I clean it?) and the
battery light (rebuilt newer alternator in there - is
it likely a belt?).
Thanks for all the help so far Ron & the whole SHO
gang.
-Jim
