Not really.
Todd Serota has owned about everything out there (Vettes, Ferraris, etc),
and has a VERY serious 996 that can blow away about anything on the track
(from his car setup to his driving experience). Todd is an obviously
successful lawyer that also has http://www.vinoquest.com/ as one of his
business ventures (yes, he's in CA)
It is his observation on how cars perform across a number of events. Plus,
many Porsche guys own other stuff. Dennis Lui, for example (who I posted the
bit about his wife doing heel-toe practice on the Interstate cloverleaf) has
both a track 911 and a track 348 Ferrari. Many other P-car cars also have
BMWs, and about every 911 owners has at least one other vehicle.
Todd has had a lot of Vipers and Z06s at TracQuest events. Direct car-to-car
comparisons have been easy. There is a lot of respect for the Z06 "for the
money", but the brakes are the weak point. Still, for an
off-the-showroom-floor track car, the new 911 (the 996) is still the best
when you consider all factors (suspension/engine/brakes).

I think this is more the case of the Porsche guys trying to rationalize why
they're getting clobbered by a much less expensive car. "Well, at least we
have better brakes". :)

This is where Todd Serota has been able to see the differences. I wouldn't
expect the Z06 guys
