Yeah, as you say, the "APPROVED MINIMUM WIDTH"

Which means that you can't sue them when they perform like shit. 225s should
be on a minimum 7" width, and work the best on an 8" width. If you don't
agree, you don't drive your car hard enough and can't tell the difference.

Believe it or not, 6" is the approved minimum rim width for 225/50-16s.

On my RX-7 they were a lot happier on the stock 16x8s.

FYI. 225/50-16s are short on a SHO (speedo error) and 245/45 are the same
height.
