[Shotimes] car quality

I usually end up with old cars so I don't have a lot of personal experience
to draw from, but I can make a couple of observations:

1) I had very few quality issues with my 90 SHO.
2) I have had no quality issues with my 97, although I did weld the cams
just in case.
3) My co-worker with 2 Camry's has his cars in the shop frequently.
4) My wife's Jeep has lost its CD player (Mitsubishi!) and a turn signal
(multifunction) switch.
5) My dad's shop works on plenty of American AND foreign cars.
6) I have driven rental Hyundai's and I would never buy one of them. And
the Kia seems to be worse than that.
7) The quality surveys that occasionally hit the media have some of the
American brands doing well. I'll admit that I don't know how they measure
the quality nor do I have an opinion if it is an accurate measurement or
not.

I choose the car that I want to buy from brands that have been making cars
long enough to sort of know how to do it, otherwise without much regard to
quality. If it breaks I can fix it.

>If there is anyone out there who believes that the quality of the Big Three
>is anywhere "close" to the European or Japanese imports, they are (1)
>spending too much time on the crack pipe, or (2) are absolutely clueless,
>or
>(3) are a product of the US public school system.
