I would do the DPFE 1st. It is cheap and easy to replace. Then take off the 
throttle body and look to see if your EGR ports are clogged. They were NASTY on 
mine. 10 cans or so of Berrymans and a car wash cleaned those puppies right up! 
I would seriously doubt it is the EGR valve itself.
