I owned a Gen 1 and the MTL made a large improvement.  When I bought a 
'93,  the MTL made no improvement and actually worked worse.  I replaced it 
with D4 and found the same improvement that I had found with MTL.  If you 
want to find out what your synchro's are made of without spinning 
wrenches,  try the different fluids.
