I never knew that injector cleaner could actually work as advertised!
A few years back, I owned an RX-7 that had pathetic gas mileage, and
nothing that I tried seemed to do anything, including injector cleaner. I
gave up on trying to improve the Rex's gas mileage, and similarly I gave
up on $5/bottle injector cleaner fluids.
Then a month ago I decided to try a bottle in my SHO, which has never
gotten much more than about 20MPG at best, sometimes 22-24MPG on the
highway. It was a last-resort option, and I figured it couldn't do any
harm, but wouldn't do any good either. The bottle (Motomaster cleaner)
cost me $4 at Crappy Tire. The first tank of gas with the cleaner wasn't
anything special-- 19MPG in mixed city/hwy driving.
Then I filled up the tank as always, reset my trip odometer, and drove.
Today I was driving on the highway, and happened to notice that I was
getting close to the end of my tank of gas. Gas light flipped on, I drove
to my destination and most of the way back, stopped at a gas station,
filled up, noted fuel used and distance driven, and I got a whopping
***29MPG*** in mixed driving (~60% hwy).
Wow. I can't imagine how much gas money I could've saved if only I'd run
a bottle of injector cleaner through my car a couple years ago!
The money spent on the bottle of injector cleaner fluid has now paid
itself over a few times!
Later,
