Hey Everyone,
Yesterday wasn't that great of a day for my SHO - it got backed into TWICE!!!
The first time was while I was parallel parked downtown while we were eating
lunch. When I came out and noticed the minivan in front of me had squeezed
into a spot that was really small due to the car in front of him not staying
in his lines. I almost always check the front and back of my car before I
leave a parallel parking spot, and sure enough - the van had backed into my
car! The only damage was a shattered license plate cover, but what really
made me mad is that they went through the effort of cleaning up all the
remains of the cover before they left, hoping I wouldn't notice. I was so mad
that I just wrote down the vehicle info and left. If I would have thought
about it then, I would have let the air out of two of their tires so they
couldn't use their spare. : )
About an hour or so later, I calmed down and went back to the parts store to
replace my $3.99 plate cover. I installed it and took the car out for a drive
since it was such a nice Sunday afternoon. I parallel park again at a house
where a friend of mine is doing construction work. This time I make sure
there's a TON of clearance between my car and anything else. Well that didn't
make any difference - one of the construction guys working at the house had to
back up over TWO car-lengths to hit my car on the other side of a driveway,
yet he managed to mash his hitch right into my custom plates. It shattered my
plate cover that was maybe an hour old, ruined my custom front plate, and
damaged the license plate bracket. I was in complete disbelief when I walked
out and saw my new plate cover shattered again - it seemed like a dream. Then
I got REALLY pissed about it, since the a$$hole left without saying a word,
knowing full-well whose car it was.
My friend was going over to the guy's house that hit my car that night to take
a look at a truck he was selling, and confronted him about. The guy said that
he didn't remember hitting the car (yeah, right), but if his receiver matches
up to the damage, he'll pay for it (there was paint from the plate ON his
receiver). Come to find out, he doesn't even have a license, so I'm sure he'd
much rather pay for the damage than have me file a hit-and-run against him!
I took the front plate and bracket off to inspect the bumper for damage, and
luckily the bumper wasn't hurt at all. So now I basically need a new plate, a
white plate bracket, and three of those plastic rivets that hold the front
plate bracket on. If anyone has a white Gen II front plate bracket in
excellent shape, please let me know! Also, if anyone could share the part
number for those plastic rivets, it'd be much appreciated.
Thanks for letting me vent! Our cars are safe nowhere... : (
