Mark,
I was horrified to see that the head safety guy (and
start/finish flagger) was sending out cars that would arrive
at turn one RIGHT when another car was coming to it at speed.
I did my best to try to keep him alert, but sometimes he
just didn't look or seem to know what he was doing. I know
he had had heart surgery not too long before our event, and
was just leaving the area often to go to the first aid
building for oxygen I assume. I tried to take over at those
times.
I only saw this happen about three times, but it was enough
to cause my hair to lighten a few more shades that day. :)
Could be the person you don't mention was one of those cars.
If sent out like that, they really didn't have too much
leeway to try to take turn one without getting in the way.
Oh well, thanks to alert drivers like yourself, we avoided
calamity!
