Dinking with the clutch with a broomstick won't tell you if you need a
recharge.
Only by connecting a set of guages to the system will you determine what the
state of charge actually is. Then it can be determined if your charge is
correct or requires attention.
The clutch also requires electrical power to energize. Power is switched by
a relay in the relay module and is controlled by the PCM. The PCM uses the
cycling switch as an input in newer cars. On older cars, the cycling switch
is inline with the relay switching line.
