The VSS also might not throw any codes. My SLO started having tranny
issues (ax4s) and I got a code 647 or something outta it. Well I changed
the VSS cause that's what a few ppl said it prolly was and the shifting
got much better. But I never saw a "VSS" code. My 93 Black ATX parts car
did throw 452 and it won't shift outta first gear, and it throws a host
of other codes too for tranny things. My VAPS on my Opal Frost has acted
weird a few times and I'm wondering if the VSS is failing. Like my SLO
it hasn't thrown a code, but that might be an answer. In a perfect world
I'd do it today while the oil pan is off cause there is soo much room to
work there on it.
My VSS on the SLO also tested out fine via resistance testing on the ATX
plug on the top of the tranny. It helped when I changed it but the
damage was already done. Forward planet carrier or something is making
all sorts of noise now. But the car still runs ok on the highway as I
found out in the last few days :-) A really SLOw bat outta hell. I've
been spoiled by the HP of my wounded SHO

The VSS will through a code 452 and cause the steering to go from really
stiff to really loose at highway speeds, since the VAPS pulls it's
signal from the VSS. TC lockup will also be affected and cruise control
will usually not work.
