[Shotimes] OT - ISDN Anyone?

Sorta depends on where you live. I'm pretty close to the CO for SBC, so my
DSL is quite good. Apart from the "neighborhood network" security issues
that is mostly solved with a firewall, there can be issues with the
inconsistency of cable service. A few friends of mine with home offices have
complained, and one friend in VA went to DSL after his cable slowed too much
in the late afternoon after the kids got home from school, and he had
paperwork to get in/out. The consistency of DSL seems to work better for
business work, as opposed to casual Internet use and gaming.

For myself, I would tend to pick DSL. IMHO, telcos know about supplying a
critical service, and it doesn't seem that cable companies have grasped that
concept yet, as they have always provided a "luxury" service. Not saying
that every cable company sucks, but every one that I have had to deal with
has been poor. We have had far more problems with our Comcast cable TV
hookup than I've had with my SBC DSL connection since I got the DSL in
4/2001.

I thought about satellite, could not get DSL, but finally got cable. The
cable seems to work OK and I think it is faster than DSL. I haven't had any
problems with the cable or the hardware. I think cable may be more widely
available than DSL due to the distance limitation for DSL.
