Boy, DO THEY!! When I converted the Lowrider to R134 in 1999, the shop wanted to
change that line, which is called the "liquid line" that goes to the expansion valve
from the condensor in the front. For whatever reason, it is not metal, but some
kind of plastic. There was a huge run of defective ones, and I got three of them in
three hours. This was right before the Indiana convention, and I was running around
all over the Bay area trying to find a good one. We thought we did, and got it in
just in time for me to leave, but by the third day out, all the refrigerant had
leaked out. I had to suffer Indiana (and Nebraska, with the polite trooper) in
boiling humidity. But I got over 30 mpg on each tank because I wasn't running the
compressor.....small consolation!
I guess they are changed at a major service to fix the potential leaks, but I'd just
as soon have kept the original one for that particular job. Hindsight.......!
At the time, I think these were Ford parts, but they might be aftermarket
now....there's still a lot of Tauri on the road. They were about 45 bucks.
