Motorola developed AM radio more than 20 years ago for automotive use.  AM
has certain advantages over FM, notably much longer range is possible.  And
while 10K is limited compared to 20-20, it will produce a quite pleasing
sound, particularly in a noisy auto environment.  Also, which factory
speakers 20 years ago would go to 20K Hz?  10K was considered on the cutting
edge, then.
