You are correct!

He said "Does anyone have any helpful information?".  The best help I can 
give him is to go ahead with other preventive maintenance while he has the 
front of the engine disassembled.

Here is my story from long ago (YMMV)...
I replaced my timing belt.  One month later the CPS failed so I had to 
replace that the day after Thanksgiving.  I could not get a water pump on 
short notice so skipped that.  Two months after that the water pump started 
leaking.  I had to disassemble the front of the engine 3 times in a 3 month 
period when I could have done it all one time.
