Oh so true. I might even go so far as saying that the rod bearings are
more likely to be an issue than the valve shims. I know of several people
(like me) that lost motors due to this problem. The initial knocking
sounds appear like bad gas or such and if you don't know about these
things, the worst happens. I was still off the list at the time and
didn't ask for help. Most anyone else I asked locally was too ignorant to
give good advice.
