I want thank everyone on the list who posted emails for starter problems in
the past, for helping me get my 1993 SHO MTX back on the road again due to a
starter problem. This is the first email that I have posted on this problem
as I found everything I needed in a lot of past list emails on the subject
of starters.

My 1993 MTX SHO all of a sudden just wouldn't crank. But the dash lights
were nice and bright, but didn't dim when the ignition key was turned. I
could not jump start it with cables, but I could bump start it by rolling it
down a hill and popping the clutch. It would run fine, but it wouldn't
start again using the starter. Using information from this SHO list I
checked my battery (12.5V), cleaned the terminals (they looked nice and
clean before but I did it anyway), checked the voltage at the two terminals
on the starter solenoid attached to the starter (12.4V) and even jumped the
solenoid terminals to determine that the starter was in fact the problem
(lots of sparks but no crank). Then using information in past emails I
determined how to remove the starter, I checked for the number of teeth on
the gear (12) since I learned that the number of teeth varied and then
researched my options: buy new, buy rebuilt, or get it rebuilt. I decided
(again based on comments in past emails) that the way to go for me was to
take it to a local place that has rebuilt an alternator for me before. Two
days after the starter died, I installed my rebuilt starter (it cost $105
plus tax) and the SHO was back on the road again.

Thanks for all the help on this and other SHO work I have had in the past.
This car was totaled a few years ago, stolen and badly damaged this year,
but it is all back together again and still running great (104K miles and a
salvage title).

This is the time of year to think about things that you are thankful for.
This is a great list, and I am thankful that I found it.
