CarFax will NOT show accident repair. However, as I understand, there is an
insurance company system that will show repairs against a VIN #. IIRC, Ryan
Dudek (when he was at Nationwide) and Ron Fleishman (another Nationwide rep)
had access to this stuff. The collision stuff was related to repairs against
a VIN (using parts ordered??), and CarFax is purely the legal stuff that
gets recorded against a title.

My 94 GL never showed the 2 wrecks it was involved in on Carfax. Both were
$4000+ of deer/car damage, both times it was fixed. But the carfax showed
clean.

Interesting. This is a quote directly from the Carfax web site:
"Accident File
Major accident damage severely affects the safety and resale value of a
vehicle. Don't make a costly mistake - order a full CARFAX Report to avoid
buying a rebuilt wreck."
They differentiate that from a salvage title:
"Salvage File
A full CARFAX Report can uncover if this vehicle was damaged in a major
accident or wreck. These damaged cars are often sold to buyers without
disclosing the problem past."
Are they being redundant or do they obtain info about major repairs as well
as salvage titles?

An accident will not show up on Carfax unless the car is totaled and a
Salvage title is issued. If that happens the person buying the car is going
to get a salvage title from you.
A person with the right connections can find out if an insurance claim has
been paid on the car but I don't know of a way for the general public to
access that information.
