I have the Michelin Pilot XGTs on my '93 ATX in the 225/50/17 size with SVT 
17x7 rims.  They are tough tires that will take a track day (depending on the 
track and driver of course ;) without coming apart.  They survived Hallet in 
104 degree ambient temps during the Tulsa Convention in 2000.  In the snow 
they are marginal.  In the rain they seem to grip just fine.

IMHO the Pilots are good performance tires even though they are pricey.
