[Shotimes] EL Backlighting

As some of you remember, I am working on an EL kit for use with the oem dash
gauge templates. I've been thoroughly waterlogged by my inability to locate
white EL at a reasonable price, as well as a cost-effective inverter. It seems
there are plenty of both to be had in the UK, but once it gets to the US, the
price skyrockets for no apparent reason (considering the volume that the US
consumes each year). I may be able to provide some later this summer with a
blue color, because the green/blue EL is fairly cheap, but I've still got to
work out some controller issues.

Which brings me to the reason for this post. While undergoing extensive
testing of less-than adequate components, I decided that I really want a
different daytime color for the gauges. Specifically, I've always liked the
midnight-blue that Speedhut offers. The reason I didn't originally purchase a
Speedhut product is because the dark blue dial was only listed as a
background-glows option, while I wanted a lit font. Since their product is one
of the higher-quality available at a reasonable cost, I contacted them in
regards to creating a custom dial. The resulting conversation revealed that
the colors they list are not set in stone, and the only restrictions are that
the fonts must have good contrast against the background in both day and night
viewing. IOW, they will mix and match colors, at no additional cost, as long
as you can see the fonts. Apparently they did not take the time to list every
possible combination, but rather the most common color combinations.

FYI.
