The SHO ATX will not be compatible with the 3.8's PCM. Wrong chain ratio.
Also the bell housing bolt pattern is different.

The 3.8 crank is very soft, unlike the v6 SHO forged crank, and are often
significantly worn. Don't expect to get more than several thousand miles out
of it before the knock comes back. I went through this on a 95 Windstar at
65k miles. Blown head gaskets (under extended warranty), internal coolant
leak of timing cain cover (not under warranty), rod knock/ replaced
bearings, knock came back (not under warranty), and finally AX4S failure
(not under warranty).

We really liked the Windstar, but I consider the drive train reliability and
Ford's lack of warranty extension to satisfy known cronic flaws
unforgiveable. It is the last new Ford product I will ever buy.
