Eric, (or any others on the list)
Did you ever get your squeaky steering problem fixed? If so,
was the problem the tie rod ends?
I think I have the same problem with my 1993 MTX and want to fix
it. I can hear this not only when turning the steering wheel (both
ways), but also when driving the car up and down small hills.
Thanks for your help,

Eric,
When you pop the outer TRE loose from the knuckle, that's a perfect time
to check the condition of the inner TREs.
If the inner TRE flops around or takes anything other than 2-10 lbs
force to move it, it's bad and should also be replaced.
FWIW, the greaseable outers from AutoZone are only 20 bucks each and are
real easy to replace.
