Bill the ECT sensor for the EEC is on the other side of the t-stat housing
from the gauge sensor. Usually you'll get a code if the sensor is bad (out
of range). The sender for the dash gauge isn't sent into the EEC.
Do you have a good set of O2's in there?
My beater 93 has a small 16 gallon tank and had (put some others in last
night) some bad O2's (constant CE light on the hwy). Even with the small
tank and the bad O2's it gets 350+ on a tank, 400 straight hwy. 280 is
really low, unless all you do is stop light to stop light and let the car
idle and warm up every morning.
280 on 18 gallons is ~15 mpg :o(
