I've decided that I want one of these little toys myself.  I've decided that 
the new HP iPAQ 1910 looks good, also the Dell Axim which is actually a 
little cheaper.

As far as using it with the car's computer, I think the laptop would be 
better.  Even though the PDA's run an operating system derived from Windows, 
they don't run software written for Windows.  As PDA's become more popular, 
they may get applications written for them to work with the car's computer.
