I agree, especially with eibachs and any "so called lowering springs".
My welds are broken, holes milled out and the struts are out as far as
possible..

Actually, with the welds broken, the chances are that the struts are
pulled out as far as they will go, anyway (assuming the car was not
crashed and has things bent up a bit). If in doubt on a weld-drilled
car, pull the struts outward as far as they will go. You will maybe get
one degree of negative camber at most.

Personally, I use masking tape and a pen. Keeps things looking pretty..

If the welds have not been broken, you can easily remove the three nuts
per strut with no issues, as nothing moves.

If the welds ARE broken, mark the position of the plate before removing
the nuts (I use a permanent marker) so that you can get the plate back
in the same spot.

Okay I cannot access the archives so I must post this question.

When installing strut tower braces can I just remove the three nuts
on the strut tower in order to get the mounting plate on with no adverse
affects? Do the wheels need to be off the ground or is it OK to have the
car's weight on them?
Sorry if this sounds like stupid questions, but if I don't know I
can screw up lots of things. I'm really good at screwing up stuff. TIA
