Ron,

Don't forget that stock/original Taurus (and SHO) tie rod 
ends (outer ones mainly) go bad at alarming rates.  My '91 
had the same type of steering fault yours did, and I thought 
the subframe was loose, or the steering rack was gone etc.

At a closer examination, Performance Plus found that the tie 
rod ends were literally frozen in place requiring a huge 
amount of effort to move them in any direction.  New ends 
made a huge difference.
