[Shotimes] STP from now on.....

At the next convention, my Red Cross fundraiser is a wagering pool. Guess at what mileage the Lowrider will need a major engine
teardown. $1 for a 1K spread, $5 for a 3K spread, and so on. I figure Harvey will go for it big time. :-)

Well....I guess it's just a sign of aging......

Lowrider is due for another oil change, but I have to go another work week before I
have a chance to do it. So yesterday, I replaced the quart it used over this last
3K miles, and added a pint of STP again. I had used it prior to the rod bearing
change, and I still hear no rods, but there sure is a LOT of other rattling when it
starts cold. Those timing chain tensioners are just getting TOO noisy in the
mornings. From now on, it will run 10-30 Valvoline and a pint of STP in the winter,
and 10-40 and a pint in the summer. For convention trips crossing the country in a
couple of days, it will get synthetic, but still with STP.

If I could get it to not rev to 2000 at light off, that would definitely be better,
but it insists on doing that.

I put the pint in at work last night while it was warm, and drove it home to mix it
up. This morning, cold soaked, it started and sounded like a totally different car.
To me that's the Kings English....it's saying to me.... "OK...with this many miles,
I need better oil retention up top....YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!"

STP gives me that, so it'll get it from now on. By the case, I get a discount from
my NAPA store.

YYMV... I'm satisfied, with 256,250 and climbing by 700 a week.
