[Shotimes] Radar/Laser Detectors

Yep. In the 70 mph speed limits around MI, if I'm going to run my usual 79,
I don't even use the detector anymore, I have no worry of being tagged. It's
just when I need to really get somewhere, or when we are caravanning, that I
use it.

I also find it to be of more use on surface roads than Interstates. Lake
Orion cops enforce the 35 limit through town at night with radar.

Looking back, for my last 5 tickets (all speeding) and 1 warning ticket,
this has been the situation:

1. 12/90 or 1/91 in MI: Tagged via VASCAR on I-94
2. Spring '91: Warning ticket on I-94 in IN, tracked with VASCAR
3. 9/92: Tagged via VASCAR on I-94 in Indiana
4. 10/92: Tagged via VASCAR on I-94 in Indiana (almost in the same
spot...with 2 miles of the MI border!)
5. Mid '94: Tagged via new Stalker Ka gun in Kildeer, IL. My beloved
Passport didn't pick up the (then new) Ka band. Time for a new detector!
6. May '96: tagged via VASCAR in IN on I-64.

See a pattern here? Other than not having the brand-new detector technology
in '94, detectors were worthless for the rest of these tickets.

Last ticket I got was instant-on radar. Detector told me right away that I
was being painted, but it was too late. Now I use my
detector only so I know when I'm being painted. It's no insurance at all,
IMHO, in the age of instant-on radar.

Americans think they have a constitutional right to go 5 over. In MN/WI,
daytime enforcement on the interstates is little concern.
You can go 10, sometimes 14 over without a worry.

I usually get behind a fast mover (never have to wait long) and use them as
a radar picket. Actually saw it work once. Poor
bastard in a Boxer. He just had to pass the Taurus...

Being officially bored with he present thread of flame wars...

Let's try a different flame war!! (And give AL a break)

What type(s) of Radar/Laser Detector(s) do you have and what is your opinion
of it?

What type do you think is best?

What is your best avoid a ticket story?
