Whether or not a Sentra is considered "powerful" GREATLY depends on the type
and year of the car. I had a '91 Sentra SE-R that was a lot of fun to drive
and had quite a bit of pep, but nothing compared to my SHO. The SE-R
version of the Sentra started in '91 with an excellent, bulletproof, 140 hp,
2.0 liter engine, but gained a lot of weight and lost horsepower through the
years.
The new SE-R V-Spec has a new 2.5 liter engine that has 170 horses and is
pretty quick, but still shouldn't be a match for the SHO. You're biggest
problem was shifting at 5K - not only were you never reaching peak
horsepower, but you also shifted out of the power band at every shift. Try
revving it out next time to at least 6500, and you'll leave ANY stock SE-R
in the dust. Besides, it's a lot of fun to hear the SHO motor at 6500, and
it sure won't hurt it! ; )
