I've always wanted to do something of the sort. You see, I like sleepers
- witness my SHO. My concept was to buy a Hyundai Excel three door,
build a tube subframe for the rear that would house some prodigious
chunk of iron. I never settled on an engine, but of course, I never
bought the Excel either, even when one was offered to me for $50. I
think my favorite was a Mazda 13b from a 3rd gen RX-7. I figured that it
wouldn't make the handling too poor, being a fairly good power/weight
mill. As for bodywork, I wanted it to remain as stock as possible. The
only reason I'd want someone to notice the car is for it's condition. I
want a showroom fresh looking Excel. Oh, and I'd paint it beige.
Sbarro managed to get extra width to support a larger drivetrain and
wider track tires on his VW Golf Turbo by slicing the car lengthwise and
putting more sheetmetal in the middle. Of course, he also had an
innovative way of allowing access to the engine bay.

Up front, nothing but battery and radiator.
