[Shotimes] exhaust questi

I can't really say for sure what it will sound like without it, but I can
guess. Even with the totally stock exhaust, including resonator, on
my car it had a slight rasp. When accelerating, at about 2500 to 3000
rpm, it developed a little bit of a "buzz". I only really heard it when
the windows were down. I would imagine that without a resonator
it would be worse. When I had the y-pipe installed it was definitely
worse.

As far as replacing it goes, you want as big of a "glass pack" style
muffler as you can get. On the MTX's you can't really go longer than
stock as there's no room. I had a larger diameter one put in. It's
around 4 or 5 inches in diameter. Much larger than the stock one,
which was barely larger than the pipe. The shop that installed it
moved the heat sahield slightly to accomodate it. No problems
with it yet. It does definitely make a difference. The exhaust has
a slightly lower tone, and the rasp is virtually unnoticable. I don't
think you can ever get rid of it completely with the small displacement
engine.

Incidentally, the guy at the shop that did the work agreed with me when
I asked about it. He explained that you need more volume for the
packing to absorb some of the sound. The stock resonator is very
small.

What are my options for a larger resonator? What's it going to sound like
without it? Thanks
