Not quite Ben.  The parts you are referring to are your sway bar endlinks,
and they can be the source of a knock, however I have never heard one of the
plastic ones knock.

The control arms are 4 stamped pieces of metal on the rear suspension that
connect the wheel/ knuckle to the center of the car.
