Onalaska was named before Alaska was named. Onalaska was named after a 
Norwegian farm implement company, Laska. Local farmers would meet at church 
or the local tavern and ask, "own a Laska?" That got warped into On-a-laska 
due to the heavy Norwegian accent and soon after, the town got it's name. 
A-laska got it's name 'cause they only had one.
