My son just finished a 3.2 install into the 89.

This is what he did. A '95 65k miles 3.2 block and heads. 3.0 intake cams.
Check valve lash. 3.0 fuel injectors and rail. 3.0 waterpump, pipe and
thermostat housing, 3.0 oil pump and oil pan. Everything on the front of the
block - timimg belt idled w/stud, covers, the 2 belt accessory system - you
have to hacksaw off a 1" x 1" boss off the front head casting to clear the
3.0 alternator mounting bracket & shorten bolt. 3.0 exhaust
manifolds/y-pipe. 3.0 engine harness. 3.0 A/C, power steering pump, motor
mounts.

Gaskets & seals as required, but RTV can replace most flat gaskets because
of the Yamaha's precision finished gasket surfaces. Unfortunately, the heads
had been removed, so he had to buy 3.2 head gaskets. Other maintenance and
tune up items as required, depending on condition of your 3.0.

Other:
Intake port match and polish. Why not?
MTX fiber lined blocking rings & seals as maintenance. Castrol Dexron/Mercon
ATF.
