Well, I was letting the engine run for awhile in my garage, just to see if I
could get it to light the CE light again, and no dice.
BUT, I did notice a strange whistling sound coming from the engine. I
couldn't feel any air being blown around (other than the cooling fan,
obviously) but when I got some carb cleaner and sprayed around the area the
whistling was coming from, the revs went waaay up. This indicates some sort
of vacuum leak, right?
Unfortunately, it appears to be some sort of cork-material gasket between the
lower intake and the block. The setup is somewhat similar to the V6 SHO
(except for the gasket material) (SHO content!). It even appears (now that I
take a closer look at the offending area) that the gasket material is visibly
broken. I hope none of said material gets sucked into the engine, but it
probably already has.
Anyway, does all this make a bit of sense to anyone? I think I'm barking up
the right tree here, although I won't know for sure until I get it looked at
by a "professional" tomorrow. Just not sure if I'm going to an old mechanic I
used to take my '90 SHO to (SHO content!) or to the scary Isuzu dealer.
Decisions, decisions.
Oh, any gearheads in the Cincinnati area wanna help a SHOtimer out? I'm
obviously willing to pay for services rendered, I'd just be more comfortable
dealing with someone from the list versus the dealer (who will probably tell
me the engine needs rebuilt ;^)
