That is just the ticket the 96-98 4.6l DOHC Cobra guys did, 4.10 to 4.88
gears worked wonders at the strip...

It would seem to me that you could somewhat compensate for the lower amount
of low end grunt by using a higher (numerically) differential ratio. The SHO
engine revs higher than your typical 302 and I would expect you would get
pretty good performance with a final drive ratio in the upper 3's.
